Top Nail Polish Picks From A/W 2013

Another day another nail polish.....

Hello beauties!

Firstly Happy New Year to everyone! I know I've been lacking on posts the last few weeks and I apologise. Christmas really just took over this year. Back to reality with a bang for 2014, lets hope it's a good one!

Today I have my top nail polish picks from A/W 2013 as chosen by yours truly to share with you. I have to say I've been very impressed with OPI's holiday collection with Maria Carey this year. I took a trip to my beauty supply store Hennessy's in Cork and really had to restrain myself from buying the whole collection! That being said I did pick up three polishes, all of which are in this post. The only reason I didn't end up buying more was because I managed to convince myself I didn't need them or already had something similar. A job well done I think!

First up is OPI 'Visions Of Love' which is a deep burgundy creme. This actually goes on darker than it looks in the bottle which I didn't mind. This is a really sophisticated colour and looks great on the nails, quite vampy. The opacity is great, the consistency is thick but not gloopy and its easy to work with. I used two coats for the photos below. This lasted eight days on my nails without chipping. Yes you read that correctly, eight! Even after there was only minimal chipping to one or two nails and I removed it as I wanted to paint them a different colour. Success!

Next up is OPI 'Underneath The Mistletoe', great Christmas name here! This is a dark candy apple red crelly (not quite a creme and not quite a jelly polish) with lots of glitter. This looks absolutely amazing in the bottle, kind of like somebody made a glitter candy glaze just for nails. It does dry a littler duller on the nails but its still gorgeous. It reminds me of Lime Crime's Carousel lip glosses! The consistency is good. I wasn't sure how many coats would be needed as sometimes with crellys they can be hit or miss but two coats was enough to get full opacity.

Lastly from the OPI Mariah Carey Holiday Collection is 'Wonderous Star' which is a gold and black glitter polish. This reminds me of a decoration for the Christmas tree there's so much glitter in it! This can be worn on its own or on top of your chosen colour. Even though the opacity is quite good, I still like to wear this over another colour as with all glitters its a nightmare to take off. When layered over a base colour it make removal easier. I have one coat over Chanel's 'Blue Satin' for the picture below.

I couldn't leave out a navy for this time of year as I think its a staple colour for nails. For my navy I've chosen Chanel's 'Blue Satin'. What I love about this colour is that its pretty dark but you still know its navy. A lot of navies look black which kind of defeats the purpose I think. There is a really subtle shimmer that you can see when the it catches the light in a certain way. I'm normally not big on shimmer but I have to make an exception in this case :) I know Chanel polishes are ridiculously expensive (around €21 eekkk!) so I'm not saying to rush out and buy them all, however if were going to splurge this is the colour to go for! This in fact (at present), is the only Chanel polish I own. This particular colour is part of the permanent line so its easy to find. I used two coats for the photos below.

Just as a little end note I'm sharing my festive looks over the Christmas break. The Christmas cupcakes were inspired by Miss Jen Fabulous from Youtube. Enjoy!

What colours do you love for the festive season? Were you sucked into the holiday collections this year? Let me know what you bought!
